Québec — La Compagnie des montagnes de ski du Québec (CMSQ) continue de croître. Nice work, Google Translate.
This week, the Quebec Mountains Ski Company announced the acquisition of its fifth ski resort in the province. Belle Niege, a family-owned ski resort in the Laurentian region, has been acquired by the company. Led by Swiss entrepreneur Christian Mars, the company already owns/operates four ski resorts in the province. This includes Massif du Sud, Mont Grand-Fonds, Mont Lac-Vert, and Mont Édouard.
“Skiing in Quebec must remain accessible. It is part of our culture and our identity. This pass is a concrete way to empower skiers, by offering them more value and more choice,” said Christian Mars in the press release announcment.
The news coincided with the launch of its new multi-mountain pass. Le Passe Monts Quebec features unlimited access to all five ski resorts for the 2026-27 season. The price point until April 15th is $999 CAD, which is around $720 USD. It also includes access for the rest of this season at these five ski resorts.
Investments by CMSQ have also been plentiful, including a new high-speed chairlift at Mont Grand-Fonds. Le Quotidian just reported that 24 new rental units will be built at Mont Lac-Vert. Major upgrades are also planned for Mont Edouard, including a new chairlift.
Christian Mars has made his intentions clear: he wants to own or operate ten ski resorts in the province within five years. With 81 ski areas/resorts in the province, that goal seems attainable. He’s clearly been inspired by the multi-mountain-pass models in the U.S., such as Epic, Ikon, and Indy. Reports suggest that their next target is Valinouët, situated in Monts-Valin. They also made a go at Mont. Adstock, but that deal fell apart.
He has also made his desire to take over Mont Sainte-Anne clear. However, it appears that Quebec is sticking with Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR), which is partnering with the province on various upgrades. Based on how unpredictable RCR has been, that door could reopen for Mars.
