Colorado’s Interstate 70 mountain corridor, generally considered the portion of the highway that runs from Golden, Colorado to the Utah border, is a notoriously difficult road to deal with in the winter. Nasty weather combined with interstate travel and ski traffic can make for some horrific traffic jams or road closures. The Colorado Department of Transportation‘s (CDOT) new I-70 website aims to make that all a bit easier.
CDOT has always provided traffic and road conditions, mountain cameras, and news related to the I-70 mountain corridor, but they’ve consolidated all of that information onto one page to make life a bit easier for drivers.
The new I-70 mountain corridor page has easy link-outs to the previously mentioned features, with a map that specifically focuses on the interstate between Golden and Glenwood Canyon and a collection of cameras located within the same region. It also features a weekly I-70 traffic update.
Below the traffic update, users can find information on the state’s traction laws, safety metering, travel forecasts, winter driving tips, the Bustang, and much more. The new website likely won’t alleviate the traffic or reduce the amount of time it takes to get to the mountains, but it can certainly help drivers properly prepare for what’s in store along the I-70 mountain corridor.
