Following a recent storm, most people at your local ski resort will be chasing the freshest snow possible, seeking out untouched lines and lightly chopped bowls. But after a few days or weeks of no snow, you’re often forced to turn toward the two “not-so-fresh-snow” terrain types: groomers and moguls. We asked our Facebook followers which they preferred, and while a majority gave responses that didn’t quite answer the question, we still got some interesting insight.
Groomers or Moguls?

25% of people said they prefer groomers over moguls. Many of these responses came from skiers who said they simply can’t handle moguls anymore, whether it’s because of age or injuries. Others prefer groomers because they’re on snowboards, and moguls just aren’t as fun for them.
17.5% of responses, however, pointed toward moguls over groomers. For a few people, the lack of crowds on mogul runs pulls them toward the bumps, while others are looking for as much of a workout as possible when on the mountain. Some skiers even pointed out the lack of snowboarders you find on mogul runs…
Other Responses
15% of our Facebook commentors noted that they like both, or that their preference depends on the conditions. Some people said that groomers are best in the winter, while moguls are best in the spring. Others said that any skiable terrain is good terrain, so why pick.
Of course if we were to ask our followers whether they preferred powder, groomers, or moguls, the responses would probably be 90-5-5 in favor of powder. In this case, 42.5% of responses referenced something other than the two provided options. Several responses said powder, while a handful pointed toward trees or park.
Personally I’m with the people that say any skiable terrain is good terrain, though I do probably prefer moguls over groomers (and powder over it all).
