Argentina — It’s been a forgettable season for Argentina’s ski industry, with a lack of snow throughout the winter. This has resulted in one popular ski resort throwing in the towel.

This past weekend, Caviahue Ski Resort announced it is now closed for the ski season. This was due to the lack of natural snowfall. While Caviahue did receive snow in late August, it wasn’t enough due to the warm temperatures and lack of recent snowfall. This was despite the investments detailed by the ski resort listed below, which included new snowmaking equipment.

Situated on the Volcan Copahue, Caviahue Ski Resort is one of the most majestic ski resorts in the Southern Hemisphere. The ski resort features 22 trails, 325 hectares of skiable terrain, and 12 lifts. Outside of skiing, the resort offers excursions via snowmobiles and tracked vehicles. The closest cities to Caviahue are Neuquén (360 km/224 miles) and Buenos Aires (1,550 km/963 miles). In terms of on-site lodging, the ski resort is also home to two hotels and overnight cabins.
