Dubai, United Arab Emirates — Perhaps the most famous indoor ski slope in the world is Ski Dubai. While it’s not the biggest indoor ski resort, Ski Dubai’s location in the arid desert of the United Arab Emirates makes it a memorable experience. For skiers, it’s worth wondering if it’s worth the visit.
Last week, YouTuber Tom Gellie – Big Picture Skiing shared his family’s experience of skiing at Ski Dubai. To make for a more comprehensive review, he decided to try out a beginner rental setup. Throughout his ski day, he details the issues that beginners have with the traditional rental process. The family detailed that skiing in the boots was painful, and used this example as a lesson for ski instructors to understand what their students likely go through. In addition, his skis were in need of a tune, which made carving tricky. The snow was described as wet, and the terrain is pretty easy for experienced skiers and riders.
Situated in the Mall of the Emirates, Ski Dubai is one of the most memorable skiing experiences on the planet. The ski center will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this November, with its opening back in 2005. Ski Dubai features five trails, various lifts (including a quad chairlift), and a vertical drop of 279 feet. Some of the off-slope activities include zorbing, snow tubing, ziplining, ice skating, and a penguin encounter.
