Smoke from the Dragon Bravo fire in the Grand Canyon.

The Dragon Bravo Fire burning on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park has officially grown to 11,012 acres with 0% containment as of Thursday, July 17th.

According to the National Park, favorable weather conditions are allowing firefighters to continue establishing fireline on the fire as part of a full suppression strategy. Remaining structures and cultural values located on the North Rim are being protected by crews.

Fortunately fire behavior has decreased slightly due to recent weather events, but the burn remains dynamic and unpredictable. Operations at the northeast and southeast perimeters of the fire are being prioritized.

Structures at the southern end of the fire where movement has remained minimal are being mopped up and secured, while firefighters are working to keep the fire to the west of the Grand Canyon Highway. Structure wrap will be used to protect infrastructure in the Kanabownits area.

A new lightning-caused wildfire sprang up in the Swamp Lake area as well but crews were able to suppress that burn. The Dragon Bravo fire began on July 4, 2025, due to a lightning strike. 594 personnel are currently working to supress the burn.
