Naming something the longest ski run in the world is a pretty difficult task. Are we talking about the longest lift accessed run? Are we counting off-piste runs? What about runs that require a lift ride in the middle, or a little bit of hiking? There are many trails and areas that have a claim, but the Vallée Blanche in Chamonix is frequently given the title.
Starting at the summit of the Aiguille du Midi the Vallée Blanche runs for over 20km (~12.5 miles) down the Mont Blanc massif before returning to Chamonix. It’s a stunning route that runs through incredible glacier landscapes, but it should be left for the experts only and done with a guide.
European ski instructor Marius Quast took a trip to Chamonix to ski the legendary run. Quast hit the route with a guide and several other ski instructor friends. He did have to take the cog railway to return to Chamonix, but in years with great snow it can be possible to ski the entire way.
