It felt like winter might never come here in the Mid-Atlantic. Halloween came and went, but most of us were wearing T-shirts on weekends outings as recently as a week ago.
FINALLY, the warm spell broke and overnight lows plunged well below freezing here in the suburbs of Philadelphia, and even more so in the Pocono Mountains north of the city.
I spent some time with folks out in the Midwest over the last few years, but I’m actually excited (believer it or not) for a ski season here in the Poconos.
That’s why I, like many skiers across the region, went to bed last night with hopes of overnight snowmaking at our favorite mountains.
Like a kid on Christmas morning, I couldn’t wait to hop out of bed. I fired up my laptop with joy as I saw signs of snowmaking on social media.
Blue Mountain, one of the region’s larger ski resorts, posted the video below of their impressive snowmaking system firing last night:
Camelback Mountain, who is operated by the same company as Blue Mountain, also got their guns firing for the first time this season.
I can’t wait to get back to Camelback this year. It was my unofficial home mountain for a couple of seasons in my youth.
I’m keeping my fingers cross for a cold and snowy season ahead. 🤞

Cold weather is expected to stick around with overnight lows dropping to the low-20s and high-teens at Blue Mountain throughout the week.
Look for mountains across the Poconos to maximize snowmaking this week in preparation for a long season ahead.
