The last few ski seasons in South America have been nothing short of challenging.

The Andes were plagued by a terrible snow year in 2019, COVID shut everything down in 2020, and travel from international tourists was still limited in 2021. Basically, this is the first “normal” season South America has seen in 4 years.

I’ve been following along as closely as I can by reading snow reports, watching videos, looking at pictures, and researching any other bits of info I possibly can to live vicariously with those fortunate enough to make it down there this summer.

And what a season it has been so far.

Specifically, Portillo, Chile seems to be having an exceptional year for snowfall. The resort is 100% open and the clips posted to social media look fantastic.

I’ve been following along as pro skiers Madison Rose Ostergren (@madisonnnrose) and Amie Engerbretson (@amieski) post videos and pictures to Instagram of their current trip to Portillo.

To say I’m jealous is an understatement!

It’s a good thing that I’m finally getting my passport renewed this week. I need to start planning a trip to South America for next summer ASAP. I can’t stand missing out on skiing ‘summer’ pow any longer.

Mark my words. I will ski in South America next year!
