Big Sky Resort (Montana) closed their lifts for skiing and riding back on April 24th. The resort has seen 3-4 feet of snow fall since then.
Yeah. Crazy, I know.
The resort is being forced to delay summer operations due to the heavy snowfall. They made the announcement across their social media platforms, and shared some surreal images to prove just how deep it still is out there.

“SUMMER OPENING UPDATE ⚠️
It just won’t stop snowing! Since closing on April 24, we’ve received 3-4 feet of snow on the mountain. Our rivers and forests love the moisture, but despite our trail crew’s best snowblowing, plowing, and hand digging efforts, all hiking and biking trails are still covered with snow. Given conditions, some activities will have a delayed opening.
OPENING JUNE 11: Scenic lift rides, Basecamp activities, and restaurants. Hotels open June 10.
TENTATIVE OPENING JUNE 18: Mountain biking, hiking, archery, mini golf, and the Search for Creature X experience.”
Big Sky posted a comment hinting that they hope to stay open for skiing and riding into May in the future. That’s a pretty significant announcement if you ask me. Here it is:
“While we will not open back up for skiing this season due to tram construction, we hope to stay open into May in the future.”
Pretty nuts that all three of these photos were taken over Memorial Day weekend. Looks more like President’s Day, am I right?
This spring has probably been one to remember for those of you willing to earn your turns. Enjoy it while you can!
