Authorities have confirmed that five snowboarders died after getting caught in avalanche near Loveland Pass on Saturday.

The Avalanche

  • Approximately 200 meters wide
  • 350 meters long
  • 8 feet deep!

Clear Creek County Sheriff Don Krueger said that one man did survive after he was able to dig himself out and call for help.

More information is expected to be released this afternoon. 

* This was the deadliest avalanche in Colorado since 1962.

* 11 people have been killed in avalanches in Colorado this season, nearly half of all USA fatalities.
