This German tourist is lucky to be alive after he found himself getting bashed against the rocks at Dunedin Beach in New Zealand.

As you can see in the video, the man was attempted to make his way to shore during a high tide when a serious swell repeatedly bashed him up against a concrete stairway and a pile of rocks.

Luckily for the man a local surfer, Jeff Patton, helped him to safety.

“Are you alright? You’re f***** lucky, man. You could have been dead,” he said, reports the NZ Herald.
