Newry, Maine — Sunday River guests have not been happy with the ski resort’s spring operations strategy.

The Maine ski resort, typically known for its quality spring skiing, has faced pushback from guests over the early closure of terrain and lifts, including Barker, North Peak, South Ridge, and White Cap. This included the early closure of White Heat, Sunday River’s signature double-black-diamond trail. They have also been closed on weekdays, a practice increasingly common among ski resorts as the season drags on. After lots of criticism, along with an increased push from nearby ski resorts to stay open, Sunday River has responded.

On Wednesday, Sunday River Resort updated its mountain report to announce changes to its operations. Rather than being closed on Friday, they decided to reopen for another day of operations

Here was their mountain report from Wednesday:

“We have some good news, and we want to be straight with you about it.

When we announced reduced spring operations, we missed the mark. Our plan to wind down the season didn’t reflect who we are or what our guests and passholders deserve. We heard you, and we’re doing something about it.

Sunday River will be open this Friday, April 10, and next Friday, April 17, for expanded spring access. The Jordan 8 spins 9AM to 4PM on Friday, and 8AM to 4PM Saturday and Sunday. Rogue Angel, Excalibur, and Lollapalooza are confirmed, with more possible depending on conditions. The Jordan Hotel is ski-in/ski-out for anyone looking to make a weekend of it.

For food and beverage options, The Iglu will be open Saturday and Sunday during normal hours but closed on Friday. Sliders will be serving as usual Saturday and Sunday, plus a Friday barbecue on the deck from 11 AM to 1 PM.

We’ll be back with another update tomorrow once we have more details. We can’t wait to get back on the lift with you. Thank you for being part of this community, and for holding us accountable.

We’ll see you out there.”

They even shared their feelings on social media, which included a fitting song choice. However, “Sorry” by Buckcherry would’ve been a better pick.

As of Friday, Sunday River has 14 trails and 1 lift open. The plan is to operate until Sunday, close again for several days, then reopen on April 18th and 19th for the closing weekend.
