New York — Start spreading the news, because ski season is nearing its end in New York. The Empire State had a successful winter with cold weather and a decent amount of snowfall, but the snow has been melting fast recently. Three state-owned mountains intend to remain open as late as possible, while another privately owned one remains open to the public. Here’s a rundown:

Belleayre plans to reopen on Friday for another weekend of spring skiing. It will close again after Sunday operations, with a potential reopening during the following weekend(s) if conditions permit.

Gore Mountain reopened today after being closed for a couple of days. Currently, Gore has 38 trails and 7 lifts open. After Sunday, they’ll reassess whether to reopen for another weekend(s).

West Mountain is the last privately owned New York ski area to operate for the 2025-26 season. After a one-day closure, it reopened on Tuesday. It has since resumed daily operations, and coverage still looks pretty, pretty good. West’s projected closing date is April 12th.

Whiteface Mountain season is still going strong. The historic New York ski center aims to stay open daily until April 12th. After that, they’ll be open on weekends for as long as possible. Whiteface has impressive coverage for April, with 54 trails and 7 lifts still open. Guests were treated yesterday to some nice powder conditions across the mountain.
