A cyclist was rescued by the Victoria Police Air Wing in Australia Monday night after getting stranded while attempting to cross the Snowy River.

According to the Victoria Police, the experienced cyclist was riding through the Suggan Buggan area when they attempted to cross the Snowy River. Unfortunately the water level had risen higher than they expected, and they became stranded halfway across, clinging onto reeds.

The individual was able to call for help with a satellite communication device. Rescue and Coordination Centre (RCC) were notified and dispatched the Air Wing to the coordinates.

Officers scoured the landscape from overhead before noticing a fellow cyclist on the riverbank, From there, they observed the stranded individual stuck in the middle of the river. An officer was lowered to rescue the cyclist, who was brought to safety just after 12am.

The cyclist was then taken to the hospital for assessment, but fortunately remained physically uninjured. They were stranded in the Snowy River for around four hours before being rescued.
