Then there’s the access road. There is increased mud, rock, and debris on the road due to unstable terrain, which has been exacerbated by the Jasper fire. Yesterday, it was announced that a portion of the access road will be closed until further notice.
Yesterday, it was announced that a portion of the access road will be closed until further notice. Guests will still be able to reach the ski resort via Athabasca Pass, but it’s an admittedly slower ride up. This route adds another 30 minutes to the drive. Some people are faulting Parks Canada for not fixing this sooner, since Marmot Basin tends to be quieter in the offseason, leaving ample time to prioritize a fix. In terms of how this season has been, Marmot Basin received 416 cm (around 163 inches) of snowfall, which is close to their 440 cm average. While not as snowy as Banff this winter, Marmot Basin is open and shaping up for a good finish on May 3rd, which is a lot more than you can say about a lot of U.S. ski resorts out West.
