Mt. Baker April Fools' Day.
Mt. Baker April Fools' Day.

Every year when April 1st rolls around, ski resorts around the world share some pretty killer April Fools’ Day jokes, whether it’s 150-year-old hot dogs, non-existent glaciers splitting in half, or something else. Rarely does the joke actually extend off social media and reach the mountain itself, though.

This year for April Fools’ Day, Mt. Baker in Washington put together a great joke. Instead of trying to trick the public with some humorous fake news, the ski area set up small obstacle courses in the lift lines, forcing skiers and snowboarders to put in a little bit more effort to get on the slopes.

If you pay attention, you can see that there’s still plenty of ways to get onto the chair without going through the obstacle course, so they seem to have left it mostly optional. The funniest part is the tiny entrance gate to get onto Chair 5, though I imagine snowboarders might have had a hard time getting through that one. Shoutout to the Mt. Baker lifties and ops teams for setting up a great April Fools’ Day.
