Canyons Village, Utah — Sunday marked the end of the life of an interesting lift that served the Canyons Village at Park City Mountain Resort.
Yesterday was the final day of operations for the Cabriolet lift. Park City marked the occasion by offering free donuts to guests from 8-10 a.m. on Sunday. The open-air people mover debuted in 2000, back when Les Otten & the American Skiing Company owned The Canyons. It gets guests from the parking lot to the Canyons Village. Riding it was a bit of a balancing act, as most stood on the voyage. There are some similar lifts remaining in North America, including at Mountain Creek, Tremblant, and Winter Park, but this one was unique to Utah.
Some longtime skiers are bummed about its closure, as it had its charm. Some of their favorite features include the funky door and being able to stand and feel the wind.
It will be replaced by a new gondola. This enclosed gondola will feature 10-person cabisn. It will also have a mid-station that will serve those who are staying in the village and homeowners. Like its predecessor, the Canyon Village Skyway will remain free to ride. This opening will coincide with the completion of the Canyons Village parking garage.

Park City Mountain Resort remains open, but is now limited to terrain on the Canyons side. The Mountain Village side of the mountain closed for the season on Sunday. If you’re planning on visiting, you can reach the lifts by parking in Lots 2-4. The Cabriolet Lot is now closed for the season to allow construction of the garage to continue.
