Conditions from the top of Siberia at Palisades Tahoe on March 25th.

The conditions at California’s Palisades Tahoe are certainly less than ideal, with the lack of early and mid-season snowfall and a quickly diminishing base forcing the resort to reconsider their original closing date plans.

An update shared yesterday make it clear that the ski area will not be able to stay open until their originally targeted closing date of May 25th. In fact, they’re not even hoping to stay open into May at this point. Instead, Palisades Tahoe is targeting late April while monitoring conditions and moving snow around to maintain ski and snowboard access on key terrain.

Palisades does not have a specific closing date yet, committing to stay open as long as conditions allow, but currently they believe the Alpine side will be able to operate into the first week of April and the Palisades side will go until late April. This is all conditions dependent, of course.

15 of 39 chairlifts are currently spinning at Palisades with 71 of 296 trails open to skiers and snowboarders. There are still plenty of events scheduled throughout the rest of the season, so don’t quit on skiing or snowboarding quite yet.
