WHISTLER, British Columbia — Vice President of Mountain Operations at Whistler Blackcomb, Brian Suhadolc, has issued a statement following a rockslide occurred early March 12 near Whistler Peak that prompted the closure of Whistler Peak and the Peak Express chairlift.

Whistler is working with geotechnical experts to assess the area and have targeted this weekend for its reopening. Be mindful some terrain will remain closed with “No Hiking” signage in place and resort officials warn that entering restricted areas could result in loss of lift privileges.

WHISTLER PEAK AND PEAK EXPRESS UPDATE

Early Thursday morning (March 12), a rockslide occurred near Whistler Peak while the resort was closed. No one was in the area, and no injuries were reported.

As a precaution, Whistler Peak and the Peak Express Chair were closed while our teams – alongside geotechnical experts from BGC Engineering – assessed the area to determine the safest path forward.

We are targeting this weekend for the safe reopening of Whistler Peak and Peak Express, pending the current weather system moving through the region and the avalanche control work required to reopen safely.

Once Whistler Peak and Peak Express are reopened, there will be closed areas and “No Hiking” signage in place around key zones. Please respect these boundaries. Entering closed terrain will result in pass privileges being revoked.

Stay tuned to our channels for updates. We appreciate your patience and support.
