Colorado’s Steamboat Ski Resort is looking at an earlier ending to its ski season than previous years, with a final day of operations currently set for Sunday, April 12th.
According to 9News, this closing date comes about a week earlier than last year thanks primarily to below average snowfall throughout this past winter. Ski areas across the state have been hit by the low snow season.
To celebrate the end of the season, Steamboat has several major events planned, including the Cardboard Classic scheduled for April 11th at 11:30am, in which participants will race down the slopes on homemade sleds, and the pond skim scheduled for April 12th at 11am. Registration for both events opens on April 1st.
At 3:30pm on Saturday, April 11th, Duane Betts & The Palmetto Motel will kick off a free concert in Steamboat Square. April 12th will feature the final free concert of the series, featuring The Wailers again in Steamboat Square.
While the winter season may be near over, Steamboat’s summer activities include scenic gondola rides, biking at the Steamboat Bike Park, hiking, and dining around the mountain. Daily summer operations kick off on June 5th.
