The Sun Valley Stampede aims to identify the most well rounded skier by testing freeride creativity, technical carving ability, and terrain adaptability. With a course of approximately 1000 vertical feet, the race includes a GS course, terrain park jumps, off-piste moguls/natural features, and more.
A select few professional skiers raced each other but this event was also open to the public. Sun Valley has an incredibly strong ski community and that showed for this event. Pros like Jimmi Ryan and Madison Rose showed out to compete alongside Sun Valley locals and other skiers of the west.
This race is one of a kind and sought to identify the true top skiers of the west. Ruby Smith won the women’s category and Harlan Collins won the men’s category. They have been crowned the best Male/Female Skier in the West.
This unique competition tests a skiers ability across all disciplines in a fun-spirited way. Sun Valley houses a lively apres community, of which the Stampede was a great edition too. With $2500 on the line athletes are pushing themselves to ski fast and throw huge tricks.
Hopefully this race will return next year as a great way to test your all-around ski ability as Sun Valley hosts more fun events for locals and visitors.
