Stunning powder turns in Tuckerman Ravine.

New England and the Northeast in general isn’t typically associated with epic powder turns in wide open bowls, but Mount Washington’s Tuckerman Ravine on the right day and with the right conditions can occasionally provide exactly that.

The New Hampshire mountain is prone to avalanches, so skiing or snowboarding the ravine should be done only with the proper education and the proper avalanche gear including a beacon, shovel and probe. These turns from skier Kevin Sweeney are some of the nicest powder turns we’ve ever seen in the legendary Tuckerman Ravine.

Again, avalanches are very possible on Mount Washington, so don’t hit the slopes thinking you’ll be completely safe. The avalanche danger on the mountain is currently at moderate, with wet snow avalanches being the most likely as rain and meltwater stress the recent snow. Make sure you always check the forecast before heading out into the backcountry.
