Idaho — With a warm front looming across the West, multiple more ski areas in Idaho have given up on the 2025-26 season.

This past weekend, several ski resorts closed due to a lack of snowpack and forecasted warm weather. While none of the major Idaho ski areas have thrown the damn towel yet, some small and medium-sized mountains are done for this winter.

Here’s a rundown of which Idaho ski areas closed this past weekend, and what ones remain standing.

Little Ski Hill

While McCall is regarded for Brundage Mountain, it also has a small ski hill in town. Little Ski Hill ended its season on March 14th due to a declining snowpack.

Magic Mountain

Magic Mountain was one of the ski areas in Idaho that didn’t operate this winter. They held out hope into March that they could open the slopes. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, as they announced their closure on Friday.

There’s one part of this announcement that I do want to commend them on. Magic Mountain announced that any pass purchased for the 2025-26 season will roll over to the 2026-27 winter. Not many ski areas do that, so kudos.

If you’re in the area, please support them in their planned offseason events.

Pebble Creek

Pebble Creek had a rough season. It recorded only 54 inches of snow, resulting in their closing three weeks earlier than usual. However, they did share some cool stats about their accomplishments, including having over 1,000 lessons and converting over 4,100 pounds of potatoes into fries. This state is known for its potatoes.

Rotaturn

The least surprising of the closures came from Rotarun, which had already scheduled its closing date some time ago. Unfortunately, its closing weekend was marked by two days of closures due to the soggy weather and strong winds. Sunday was their final day of the 2025-26 season.

Struggles At Other Idaho Ski Areas

Idaho ski areas that lacked snowmaking equipment struggled this season. Besides Magic, two other ski areas, Bald Mountain and Cottonwood Butte, didn’t operate this winter. One ski area, Snowhaven, operated briefly but has since declared its season to be over.

In terms of larger ski areas with some snowmaking capabilities, Soldier Mountain had a more consistent operating schedule, but rolled the credits on its ski season on March 6th.

The remaining open ski areas include Bogus Basin, Kelly Canyon, Lookout Pass, Lost Trail, Pomerelle, Schweitzer, Sun Valley, and Tamarack. However, an earlier-than-expected closing could be coming to these mountains, too. Bogus Basin, one of the largest ski resorts in the state, is planning to close for the season on March 22nd. This is weeks earlier than usual. At least they have a good sense of humor about it.
