Over this past week collegiate ski athletes gathered from all over the country in Park City/Midway Utah for the 2026 NCAA Ski Championships. Alpine athletes raced in giant slalom (GS) and slalom while nordic athletes race in the 7.5km individual classic and the 20k mass start freestyle.Â
Starting on March 11 with the giant slalom races Montana State athlete Justine Lamontagne took the win for the women. Johs Herland from University of Utah won for the men’s category, ultimately leading to an overall event win for University of Utah.Â
Following the GS races, nordic athletes tackled the 7.5km individual classic race on March 12. Rosie Fordham from University of Alaska – Fairbanks earned herself first place alongside John Steel Hagenbuch from Dartmouth College in the men’s field.
Switching back to alpine for March 13, athletes took to the slalom race course. Montana State’s Justine Lamontagne took another win with a sweep of the alpine races. Oscar Zimmer took the win on the men’s side of things for Dartmouth.
Finally the 2026 Championships wrapped up on March 14 with the 20k mass start freestyle nordic race. Rosie Fordham further established her dominance with another win in this discipline for University of Alaska – Fairbanks. Mons Melbye won in the men’s field, skiing for University of Utah and leading the team to a silver in the event.Â
The Utah Utes won the overall title in the NCAA Ski Championships this year. This is their second consecutive title and the program’s 18th overall title.
These races are a true testament to the pure grit and hard work instilled into each of these athletes.
