British Columbia — When it comes to the great ski resorts in Canada and North America, Revelstoke Mountain Resort could be among the greatest. However, with it being one of the newest ski resorts on the continent, there are quirks to the experience.
Lift redundancy isn’t exactly a thing at Revelstoke, leading to long lines in the morning for the gondola, along with a lack of ways to get to terrain if one of the upper mountain chairlifts is closed.
Situated on the upper mountain, the Stoke Chair is the only lift that can be used to access Sub Peak. This terrain pod serves beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert trails and glades.
Last week, the detachable high-speed quad chairlift went down due to a mechanical issue. During a routine lift maintenance inspection last week, they discovered an issue with the gearbox. The required parts were sourced from international suppliers, delaying the repair process. In response, Revelstoke offered 50% off lift tickets during its closure and extended the hours for the Ripper chairlift.
The continued closure led to an apology from Peter Nielsen, the VP of Operations at the ski resort. They announced that Stoke would reopen as soon as Thursday, which it did… kinda.

After their announcement of reopening, an ironic situation arose. The lift needed to shut down again due to mechanical issues. It stayed close for the rest of the day. Revelstoke issued another statement to the public, reaffirming that it would reopen the day after.
After a delay, the Stoke chair reopened today. The BC ski resort celebrated the occasion by offering 50% off food and beverages and 25% off retail items. Hopefully, it will continue to operate so I won’t have to update this article.
