WHISTLER, British Columbia — A section of Whistler Blackcomb, the largest ski resort in North America, remains closed after a rockslide near the summit of Whistler Mountain early Thursday.

Resort officials said the slide occurred in the vicinity of Whistler Peak the morning of March 12th while the mountain was closed to the public. No one was in the area at the time and no injuries were reported.

Whistler Blackcomb operations said Whistler Peak and the Peak Express Chair will remain closed until further notice while crews assess conditions and determine the impact of the slide.

Images circulating on social media the rockslide debris scattered across the snow-covered terrain near the summit. Resort officials have not confirmed what caused the rock slide. Whistler Blackcomb, owned by Vail Resorts, said updates on lift and terrain status will be posted on the resort’s website as the assessment continues.
