A 24-year-old Sugarloaf employee was arrested and charged with the murder of a fellow employee after a shooting at a residence on Left Bank in Carrabassett Valley.
According to the Maine State Police, Franklin County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting the shooting of 23-year-old Makayla Rose Desantis of Colchester, Connecticut. She was transported by first responders to MaineHealth Franklin Hospital in Farmington before eventually being brought to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Tragically Desantis succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
On Monday, March 9th, 2026, Austin Doucette of Carrabassett Valley was arrested and charged with the murder. Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit conducted the investigation with assistance from the Carrabassett Valley Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the booking sheet from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Doucette was arrested at approximately 10:48pm Monday night on a warrant issued out of Farmington District Court. He was arrested in Kingfield, Maine. He’s currently being held at the Franklin County Jail without bail.
WMTW reports that the shooting occurred in a condo complex near the ski resort. Neighbors reported that authorities were investigating Unit 1215 following the incident.
