The Fiberbrunn Pro stop of the 2026 Freeride World Tour was supposed to happen last week and be the final stop before the cut, where only the top athletes qualify for the final two Freeride World Tour events, but tour officials were forced to cancel the comp.
After a rise in temperatures and humidity levels the snow no longer met quality or safety measures to hold the comp, this is the unfortunate reality of professional skiing.
After the unfortunate cancellation of the Georgia Pro, and its subsequent restaging in Innsbruck, the cancellation of the Fiberbrunn Pro is incredibly disappointing news for the freeride community.
This news also comes as a shock to the athletes on the tour this year, the first four comps were supposed to sort the rankings as the cut is made after the fourth event. The tour officials had to reevaluate how these cancellations would affect overall seasons and who makes it through the cut.
Following the Fiberbrunn Pro cancellation they have made the call to use points from only the first two stops to qualify athletes for the final two events. The top 13 ski men, 6 ski women, 6 snowboard men, and 4 snowboard women.
While this is a frustrating result of unfortunate snow conditions, competitive skiing is an unpredictable world. Heading to Alaska the field will be significantly smaller as those who did not pass the cut will be ending their season on the tour in Fiberbrunn.
