What’s the last thing you need to do before sending it down a sweet line on the mountain? There are probably a ton of answers to that question, including making sure there’s nobody below you, but we’re thinking about a quick pocket check. Jackson Hole local and professional skier Owen Leeper learned this lesson the hard way, losing his phone to the deep snow mid-run.

Leeper is known for his willingness to jump off insane cliffs, including this ~125 foot drop, so he’s lucky it fell out on a cliff this size (still pretty large, just nowhere near the biggest we’ve seen him hit). Fortunately Leeper was able to call and locate his phone underneath the snow.

He’s also lucky that his phone wasn’t on silent. Maybe he always keeps his phone with the ringer on, I don’t know. I just know that if I was in this situation my unwillingness to be bothered by a ringtone would mean my phone is gone forever.
