Sauna at Red Bull Heavy Metal in Finland.

Red Bull Heavy Metal is easily one of the wildest snowboard competitions out there, bringing some of the most advanced street and rail riding to the heart of cities around the world. This year the event made its first stop outside of North America, taking over Senate Square in Helsinki, Finland, and it was undeniably Finnish.

The competition, hosted on Saturday, March 7th, kicked off with an opening ceremony from DJ legend Darude (who’s legendary Sandstorm music video kicks off in the same Senate Square). If that wasn’t Finnish enough, it also featured a sauna right in the landing zone, allowing snowboarders to go straight from the snow into the heat.

I think saunas should be more commonplace around ski resorts. Put one in every lodge, maybe some at the top of chairlifts. That would be quite the way to warm up on a cold day.
