Every spring, hundreds of skiers and snowboarders hike their way to the top of Tuckerman Ravine on Mount Washington to put down some tracks in the legendary bowl. Despite the required effort to get up, the busy weekends turn into a pretty massive party.
Skiing Mount Washington is usually reserved for April, May, or June, depending on the year, with the warm spring weather lowering the avalanche risk. Throughout the winter months, the ravine, and all skiing on the mountain, is usually left for the more intense backcountry skiers with the proper training, knowledge, and gear. Andrew Drummond is definitely one of those more experienced skiers, and he managed to grab some pretty sweet powder turns on Tuesday, March 3rd.
This run was through Chute Variation South, one of several routes one can take down Tuckerman. It looks quite a bit different in the spring when most people are skiing it. That said, it’s important to remember that Tuckerman Ravine and Mount Washington is proper backcountry and faces plenty of avalanches throughout the winter. Do not attempt to hike or ski without the proper training, gear, and experience.
