Albion, Idaho — A family-owned ski resort in Idaho has been sold, but it’s now in familiar hands.
Yesterday, Local Freshies was the first to report that Pomerelle Mountain Resort is under new ownership. Owned by John and Jody Burrows for decades, the baton has now been passed on to the Mountain Manager. Zachary and Crystal Alexander are the new owners, as both have backgrounds at the ski resort. Zachary, who studied ski area operations with Colorado Mountain College, has been the Mountain Manager for around two decades. That’s where he met Crystal, who was a ski instructor there.
“I definitely couldn’t and wouldn’t want to do it without Crystal’s support and that my kids are as diehard skibums as I was,” said Zachary Alexander. “My family is the reason I’ve stayed. They have sacrificed everything for years to allow me to chase my dreams. And now we get to do it together.”
In the fall of 2023, the Burrows family decided not to put the ski resort on the market to avoid it being grabbed by a corporate entity (you know the names). They offered it to the Alexanders and, after a year and a half of securing financing, finalized the deal.
The goal is to keep Pomereelle as an affordable gem. Future upgrades could focus on the infrastructure, though they do have one modern chairlift, the E-Z Rider, installed around a decade ago.
About Pomerelle
Situated above the border of Idaho and Utah, Pomerelle is one of the deepest ski resorts in the state, averaging 500 inches of snowfall. Opened back in 1940, it’s one of the oldest ski resorts in the Western U.S. The ski resort features 31 trails, 3 lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,002 feet.
