Grand Traghee in Wyoming, one of North America's most underrated ski resorts.

There are a lot of very undervalued ski resorts across North America, whether it’s because they aren’t on a major pass, don’t have the name recognition, or don’t have as much of an après scene as other ski resorts. PeakRankings took a look at what they consider to be the most underrated ski areas across the continent, and Wyoming’s Grand Targhee Resort took the top spot.

Grand Targhee is our pick for the most underrated ski resort in North America. While it isn’t on either the Epic or Ikon Pass, this Wyoming resort, which sits just over the Idaho border and can only be accessed directly from that state, has so many things going for it that you might be hard-pressed to understand why it isn’t better known. Grand Targhee especially stands out for its snow. Sitting on the western side of the Teton range, the resort receives exceptionally light and dry snowfall each winter, and it gets a lot of it, making powder days very frequent here. The mountain also offers strong terrain variety, ranging from enjoyable cruisers to some very technical chutes. #peakrankings #werankpeaks #skieurope #skivacation #mountains #winter #skitrip #travel #landscape #snowboarding #wintertrip #skiusa #skiingisfun #powder

Located in Wyoming but accessible only from the Idaho side of the Teton range, Grand Targhee is celebrated for its exceptionally light, dry, and abundant snowfall, making powder days a frequent sight. It offers diverse terrain ranging from cruising runs to technical chutes, and on clear days provides stunning views of the Grand Teton and surrounding peaks. Despite not being on the Epic or Ikon Pass, it delivers a well-rounded destination experience without the notorious lift lines found at many major resorts.

The resort’s main drawbacks are its relatively modest size of around 1,800 skiable acres and its somewhat inconvenient location, requiring travelers to fly into Jackson Hole or Idaho Falls rather than larger hubs like Denver or Salt Lake City. It also lacks the vertical drop of Jackson Hole or the sheer acreage of Big Sky, and can be prone to foggy conditions. That said, lift tickets are reasonably priced at roughly $140–$170 for a one-day adult ticket, and Grand Targhee is part of the Mountain Collective Pass, offering two days of access with no holiday blackouts.
