The Winter Olympics and Paralympics are a blasts, but they tend to feel too short. Just 3-4 weeks simply isn’t enough time to enjoy all these whacky sports that we only get to watch once every four years. So if you, like us, are craving a little more Olympic action, consider heading to a place like the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park in Michigan to take part in the sports yourself.
The Muskegon luge track is one of only four luge tracks in the United States, running 850 feet and consisting of six curves and two starting areas. Gear and training is provided to public participants before they’re given the ability to slide at speeds up to 30mph.
Every luge sessions starts with a lesson to teach riders the components of the luge sled, how to position their body and how to steer and stop their sled. Then they’re given a luge sled, helmet, and arm pads for protection before climbing the stairs to the top of the hill. Then they slide, keeping shoulders back and legs and arms straight to their side down the track. Every session ends with a fun competition and Olympic medals ceremony.
Learn to Luge sessions cost $35 for Wednesday and Thursday nights, $65 for weekends, and $75 for holidays. Learn more about the activity here.
