With snow conditions changing constantly throughout the planned competition day for the 2026 Georgia Pro, which had been relocated to Austria, Freeride World Tour officials decided to cancel the event. Running the competition in the existing conditions would have allowed for some athletes to have much more favorable snow than others. Unpredictable and constantly changing conditions can also create a dangerous snowpack.Â
Deciding to cancel the compeition yet again is disappointing to all in the freeride community, along with all the athletes counting on these points. As the weather window for the Georgia Pro closed on February 28th, we will have to see how the FWT decides to proceed.Â
With an athlete cutoff happening after the next tour stop, the Georgia Pro is often a key point-scoring comp for many athletes. However skiing is always an unpredictable sport and the FWT is prepared to be flexible. Freeride is just as much about community as it is competition and there is no better support squad than the people that rally behind the tour.Â
The cancellation was certainly disappointing news, but the season will continue as everyone waits in anticipation for what could come next.Â
