Alberta At Banff Sunshine Village, one terrain zone tends to get a lot of attention. Derilium Dive tends to get the headlines, but another zone is just as challenging, if not more so.

Situated on Goat’s Eye Mountain is The Wild West. As the name implies, the terrain in this area is pretty wild. This expert terrain pos feature narrow chutes and gullies that require precision and critical thinking skills. A beacon, probe, and shovel are required. Guests enter through a gate, where a beacon detector helps them get to the other side.

As demonstrated by avid skier KJ Read, this zone features some of the toughest inbounds slopes in all of Canada. Is it the most challenging? With Kicking Horse existing, that’s debatable, but The Wild West is definitely hair-raising.

Another example of the extremes of the West is demonstrated by this video from
ArjunSki, where he basically has to straight-line it down one of the chutes. The avid skier claimed this to be the “most psychotic run” of his life, and we can see why.

As of Wednesday, Banff Sunshine Village has 134 trails, and all of its 12 lifts are operating. The upper mountain base depth is 223 cms (7 feet, 4 inches).
