On Friday, February 20th, the FIS Freeride World Tour by Peak Performance announced their decision to cancel the 2026 Georgia Pro, citing unstable snowpack conditions that failed to meet safety standards.
These decisions are not made lightly, with tour officials understanding that the cancellation of an event can disrupt the season standings. FWT officials, mountain safety experts, and local professionals are all consulted to make the decision, and to demonstrate how seriously the organization takes it, they released behind-the-scenes footage of the evaluation discussion.
The Georgia Pro would have brought the world’s best freeride skiers and snowboarders to the Caucasus Mountains, an area that typically features dramatic terrain and very technical lines.
Multiple venue and scheduling alternatives were considered before deciding to cancel the event. Despite the existing weather window, the instability seen across the competition faces just would not have enough time to stabilize for a safe event.
