Champion, Pennsylvania — How good has the ski season been in Pennsylvania? One had enough time to build a half-pipe.

This week, Seven Springs Mountain Resort opened up its halfpipe. The 13-foot pipe is situated on the The Spot terrain park. Inspired by the Olympics, the new pipe will allow a new generation, along with more tenured skiers and riders, to grow their skills. It’s the first time the halfpipe has been open since the 2020-21 season.

Once a core part of the terrain park experience, halfpipes are becoming harder to find. Despite halfpipes sharing the world stage with other events at these Olympics, many ski resorts have abandoned their pipes in recent years. This is due to the extensive work required to build one and the lack of users. It’s cool to see one ski resort put in the time and effort to create one.

As of February 19th, Seven Springs has 32 out of its 47 trails open. Unfortunately, a warm front is currently reducing the snowpack.
