A tourist was horrified to find pink litter covering a section of Lake Louise in Canada’s Banff National Park while snowshoeing, immediately recognizing it as a gender reveal celebration.
According to a Reddit post by u/Au_Bears (the snowshoer who found the debris), the area was covered in pink coloration and small bits of metallic confetti around 2:30pm on Saturday, January 31st. After snowshoeing, the poster returned to the spot and spent an hour collecting as many of the metallic confetti pieces as possible to ensure they don’t end up in the lake when the ice thaws.
A look at the Fairmont Webcam archive shows that litter-filled gender reveal went off between 1:50pm and 2pm on Saturday, January 31st, with the pink section appearing on the webcam. The pink stain could still be seen on the snow as late as February 12th.
According to CBC News, Parks Canada is currently investigating the incident, with littering being prohibited in national parks. If charged, violations can result in court appearances and fines of up to $25,000. If anyone has any information about the January 31st incident, you’re asked to contact Banff Dispatch.
