Shared-use trails are everywhere across the country, existing for mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, and more to enjoy the outdoors without interference from motorized vehicles. South Mountain Park in the Phoenix, Arizona area has a lot of lot of shared-use trails, but it seems some people still aren’t quite accepting of this reality.
These mountain bikers were riding in South Mountain Park when a hiker with their dog began yelling at them. Whatever happened, it seems like it happened before the cameraman reached the hikers. That or nothing happened at all and this hiker was just upset that she didn’t hear this group ahead of time.
This encounter happened at the junction of National and Mormon trail on a flat and fairly wide and flat section. The woman apparently seems quite upset about the lack of bells on the bikes, but the crew of bikers in the front did have bells, they were just going pretty slow and moving in a pretty wide open area, so they chose not to use them.
“Yes we know hikers have the right of way. We are out here all year long (even when it’s 100 degrees at sunrise) and hikers, runners, and mountain bikers who do the same, know how to share the trails.” – jay_mtb_az
