Lindsey Vonn breaks her leg at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Lindsey Vonn has successfully undergone her third surgery after suffering a complex tibia fracture while competing in the Women’s Downhill at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. The ski racer shared an update to her social media following the surgery, seen in a hospital bed with significant equipment on her leg.

According to the post, Vonn is making progress and knows she’ll be okay. She acknowledges that success now means a very different thing than it did a few days ago, thanking all of those who’ve supported her through the surgeries.

Thankful for all of the incredible medical staff, friends, family, who have been by my side and the beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world. Also, huge congrats to my teammates and all of the Team USA athletes who are out there inspiring me and giving me something to cheer for.” – Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn broke her leg after hooking her right arm in a gate mid-air, causing her to twist and crash. Though she was racing on a ruptured ACL, that previous injury wasn’t the cause of the crash at the Olympics.

The same Women’s Downhill race saw U.S. skier Breezy Johnson of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, take the gold medal, with German Emma Aicher in second and Italian Sofia Goggia in third.
