Utah — For steep skiers, Utah is a popular place. But which mountain features the steepest slopes?
Moose Springs Ranch is a private ski operation that has slowly expanded its backyard into a viral ski operation. While it’s only open to his family and friends, it’s a cool thing to follow if you’re looking for great skiing content. Anyways, he decided to analyze the OnX slope angle heat maps to discover which Utah ski resort has the steepest terrain.
Unsurprisingly, the Little Cottonwood Canyon ski resorts are at the top of the list. Alta may be known to some as “another long traverse ahead,” but those traverses can lead to steep terrain. Snowbird just has a “holy shit” moment when you see it for the first time, with it basically being steep from the get-go. Alta looks tamer in comparison, but it’s still got the goods for tenured skiers (sorry to the riders out there).
What surprised me most about the list was how high Park City Mountain Resort ranked. Ultimately, there’s some legit terrain on the upper elevations, such as McConkeys, Jupiter, and 9990.
It should be noted that there are several omissions from this list (Beaver Mountain, Cherry Peak, Eagle Point, and Nordic Valley are the most noteworthy), but none are as steep as the top nine.
