The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics have officially begun, with the Opening Ceremony having gone down on Friday and several medal events already occurring this weekend. This is nowhere near the first time the Olympics have made their way to Italy, though. To celebrate the start of the games, the official Olympic channel shared a look at the games hosted in the European country.

The first games hosted in Italy occurred back in 1956 with the Cortina d’Ampezzo, marking the 7th Winter Games in history. The second time came in 1960 with the Rome Summer Olympics, with incredible ancient history shining through. The 2006 Winter Olympics once again returned to Italy with a primary base in Turin, a city in Western Italy. Of course, the 4th Italian Olympics are the ones we see today, taking place across a large swath of the country
