41-year-old American ski racing icon Lindsey Vonnย crashed early in the Womenโ€™s Downhill, erasing her hopes of an Olympic medal at theย Milan Cortina Olympics. Vonn ruptured the ACL in her left knee just nine days ago.

Vonn crashed just 13.4 seconds into her run after losing control over the opening traverse after cutting the line too tight and was spun around in the mid-air. She was heard screaming after the crash as she was surrounded by medical personnel before she was secured to a gurney and flown away by a helicopter.

Team USAโ€™s Head Speed Coach Paul Kristofic said Lindsey Vonn remains under medical evaluation in Cortina with the team yet to hear any update on Vonn’s condition. Her teammate, Breezy Johnson won gold (the first medal for the U.S.A. in these Games). We will be sure to update on Vonn’s condition when more information becomes available.
