Snowmass, Colorado โ Snowmass has been fast to enact its master plan. Over the past few years, they’ve replaced three lifts and have worked on adding new dining experiences. It appears that the next major project that hasn’t already started is replacing a funky lift that comes out of Snowmass Village.
The Aspen Times reports that the Snowmass Town Council took steps to approve the replacement of the Skycab lift. This lift connects the Snowmass Base Area to the Snowmass Village. It also connects beginner skiers to the Fanny Hill trail. It’s known as the “Skittles” lift because of the gondola cabins’ varying colors.
The pulse gondola fixed-grip lift would be replaced by a high-speed gondola system. This would lead to fewer lift lines and a speedier ride to the top. The goal is to construct the lift during the 2027 shoulder period and have it open that year. Since it is also a transit lift, a speedy construction process is necessary not only for the ski resort but also for Snowmass. There is concern that this could lead to a decline in business in Snowmass.
This development comes amid various changes in Snowmass in the 2020s. In 2024, the new Coney Express opened, replacing two lifts. This winter saw two lift replacements (Elk Camp and Cirque) and the expansion of the Elk Camp Restaurant. Work is underway to rebuild theย Ullrhof Restaurant, which is scheduled to reopen during the 2026-27 season.
