The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics officially kick off in just a few days (opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, February 6th) and a significant number of athletes have already arrived in the many different Olympic Villages spread across Italy. In fact for the 2026 Olympics, there’s six athlete villages spread across Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Anterselva, Bormio, Livigno, and Predazzo.
South African cross-country skier Matt Smith has shared much of his journey leading up to the Olympics on his social media, and he hasn’t stopped now that he’s actually arrived. He’ll be competing at the Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium, so he’s staying in the Predazzo village. If you’ve ever wondered what Olympic athletes are fed for breakfast, this recent video of his shows exactly what they’ll be eating in Italy.
The breakfast appears to contain lots of the usual suspects, including coffee, cereal and granola, eggs, bread, bacon, yogurts, and more. There’s also a few surprising inclusions like pizza and pasta, options you likely wouldn’t think of as a breakfast food. Of course every athlete will eat differently depending on their diet requirements. While some can probably eat whatever they want, there are certainly lots of athletes on strict diets.
