Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton, Pennsylvania will not be operating today. The resort was flooded with social media comments after the announcement and their Director of Mountain Operations, Nick Delich, addressed their concerns with the following video:
“We hear you. We know it may seem odd for a ski resort to close during a snow storm. Nick is here to give you some insight into why we made the decision to close Sunday and open at Noon on Monday. The safety of you, our team members, and local first responders is our top priority. We are THRILLED to be receiving this much snow, but we need to keep roadway safety in mind. Blue Mountain Resort does not have onsite lodging. Our guests will be traveling in and traveling out during this storm that is spanning a 150 mile radius of the mountain. When we reopen on Monday, we will do it right. The pause will be worth the powder on your favorite ungroomed trails! We appreciate you all and canโt wait to see you back on the mountain!”
While it may come as disappointment to local skiers and snowboarders, Blue Mountain stands by their decision to curb road traffic in accordance with state officials and local snow emergency orders. Here is the official press release:
