Tuxedo Park, New York โ It’s been over a decade since Tuxedo Ridge last operated for skiing and riding.
Closed since 2015, Tuxedo Ridge (originally known as Sterling Forest) had eight or nine trails (one of the trails, Snoopy, didn’t operate in its final years), four chairlifts (all doubles), and a vertical drop of 450 feet. Legal issues and poor snowfall led to the mountain’s closure in 2015, and it hasn’t reopened since.
In a recent drone POV fromย ReMArKaBLy OPtiMal You-A-V Drone Videosย (yes, that’s how it’s spelled), he shows what the abandoned New York ski area looks like in winter. Parts of the ski area look to be skiable, but probably need more snow to make it worthwhile.
Going to go on a tangent here, but can people stop using AI slop in the YouTube cover photos? There are at least five great visuals in this video, but he went with the AI image because social media is incentivizing it. Just my two cents, it’s a great drone video regardless.
Abandoned In The Summertime
If you’re wondering what the ski area looks like in summer, there are great video and photo perspectives, too.
Avery Zucco, a YouTuber who tours abandoned ski resorts across the Northeast, explored the mountain in 2021. He gets further into the buildings than the drone FPV was able to.
Since then, most of the trails have grown in, the lifts and buildings have decayed, and there’s no sign of any redevelopment. Reddit user One-Performance-6578 captured the scenes in the summer of 2025, with lots of greenery around the lifts.
What comes next for Tuxedo Ridge is uncertain, but its lift-served skiing days seem numbered.
