Warren, Vermont — It’s been a snowy winter so far for Sugarbush. However, the moment that many in the Mad River Valley have been waiting for happened this weekend.
On Saturday, reaching Mt. Ellen from Lincoln Peak, and vice versa, got a whole lot easier. The Slide Brook Express Quad reopened on Saturday, connecting Sugarbush’s seemingly distant peaks.
The Slide Brook Express connects Lincoln Peak to Mt. Ellen, making it easier to travel between the two mountains. The around 12-minute ride time feels like a roller coaster, dipping through hills and valleys. Slide Brook is 11,012 feet long, equivalent to a 2.1-mile journey. It comes with a unique set of operating rules, as it requires a natural snowpack in the event of a chairlift evacuation. This usually limits its operations to weekends and holidays during the peak season.
Guests were even treated to a moose sighting, although I’m not sure how the furry creature got up there. Must have been the wind.
As of Sunday, Sugarbush Resort has 110 trails and 16 of its lifts open. That includes the Castlerock Chairlift (known for its steeps) and the Slide Brook Express Quad.
